The church that I am a part of, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is a church that believes in continuous revelation. We do not believe that the Bible alone is the only book of Scripture (we do believe that the Bible is the word of God); in 1842, the Prophet Joseph Smith received a revelation from God about writing a list about what we believe. That list is called the Articles of Faith, and it is what we believe as a church, and also what God believes and teaches.
There are thirteen Articles of Faith, and we will be focusing on the thirteenth verse which states, "We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."
Obviously, what this verse is saying is that we hope to be good to all men, and seek after the things of God. How does this guide our decisions? For me, I really do believe in kindness and since God loves all of His children, this means we should be the best people we can to His children as well. This reminds me what is most important-- what God wants, what He thinks, and how I should act.
